🏏 Ben Stokes backs Brendon McCullum as England aim to bounce back

England Test captain Ben Stokes has expressed strong confidence in rebuilding the team’s success, backing head coach Brendon McCullum ahead of a crucial home summer.

Despite a disappointing Ashes campaign, where England suffered a 4-1 defeat, the leadership duo of Stokes and McCullum has been retained. Stokes believes their long-standing partnership will help the team regain momentum.

🤝 Strong Leadership Bond

Speaking in an interview with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Stokes highlighted the strength of his working relationship with McCullum.

“I’m very confident in mine and Brendon’s ability to work together. We’ve been doing this for a long time now.”

He emphasized that while their methods may evolve, their shared vision remains unchanged:

“Our main focus is staying aligned towards winning and making this team the best it can be.”

🔄 Looking Beyond the Ashes Setback

The heavy Ashes loss raised questions around England’s direction, but Stokes chose to look at the bigger picture. He reflected on the transformation the team has undergone since he and McCullum took charge in 2022.

“What we’ve built over the last four years is something special. I can’t imagine doing this with anyone else.”

Their aggressive and fearless approach to Test cricket has been a defining feature of England’s recent journey.

🎯 Eyes on Future Glory

Both Stokes and McCullum are contracted until 2027, and the road ahead is packed with major challenges, including the Ashes and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next year.

Stokes made it clear that both he and McCullum are fully committed:

“We take a lot of pride in what we do. We’ve put our heart and soul into this team, and hopefully we’ll still be together in 2027, winning what we want to win.”

📅 What’s Next for England?

England’s next Test assignment will be against New Zealand national cricket team, starting on June 4 at Lord's Cricket Ground.

The series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27, where England currently sit in 7th place with a points percentage of 31.67
